The important railway line which passed through Dresden was disrupted for several days due to the February 1945 air raids. Railway construction crews from the Wehrmacht’s Technical Assistance Service succeeded in establishing an emergency service with limited capacities which operated until the beginning of March. In another air raid on 2 March 1945, several high-explosive bombs hit the railway bridge next to the Marien Bridge, which disrupted services across the Elbe for several days. Massive anti-tank obstacles had been erected at the entrances to both bridges at that time.
