The Technical Emergency Service’s log of operations on 3 March 1945 lists 823 workers who were deployed that day in many places in the destroyed districts. Demolition parties blasted ruins, salvaged tram wires, repaired heating and electrical facilities of hospitals and administrative buildings well as technical equipment at the abattoirs and the bread factory in Rosenstraße. Larger groups were busy at the waterworks and gasworks or worked on the damaged mains systems.
439 men – more than half the workers dispatched – searched for victims of the air raids in the cellars of collapsed buildings. They were deployed in several places in the city, and their working day was ten hours long. Seven dead bodies were recovered that day in the ruins of the buildings at Annenstraße 31 to 45.
