Until 1945, the extensive Luftwaffe complex here housed the District Air Command IV. In addition to this headquarters and a multitude of active military units, further high-level military agencies and important training facilities based in Dresden were the Headquarters of the Third Army Group, the Deputy General Command of the Fourth Army Corps, the Headquarters of the Flying Schools and the Headquarters of the Twelfth Wing of the Luftwaffe, as well as the Dresden Military Academy.
