Dresdner Mahndepots – KUNSTPLAN

LOCATION 4: Altmarkt 16

ort4On 9 August 1940, the parade of Dresden’s 4th Infantry Division reached its wildly celebrated climax at the Altmarkt (Old Market). Returning to their garrison after the successful campaign on the western front, the units were greeted on Wiener Platz (Vienna Square) by NSDAP District Leader and Reich Governor Martin Mutschmann. More than 100,000 Dresdeners lined the streets of the parade to experience the “triumphal procession of Dresden’s units”. Mutschmann and the Wehrmacht (armed forces) commanders of Dresden inspected the troops’ parade from a podium opposite the building of the Allgemeine Deutsche Credit-Anstalt (a bank) at Altmarkt 16.
