LOCATION 37: Königsbrücker Straße 3

37During the British air raid on the evening of 13 February 1945, the attacking squadrons lost two four-engine bombers over the city of Dresden. One bomber of No. 463 Squadron, No. 5 Group exploded over Dresden Neustadt. Parts of the aircraft crashed to the ground next to the high-rise building on Albertplatz and damaged the building at Königsbrücker Straße 3. Several witnesses recall the piece of aircraft wreckage, including two large engines, which lay by the roadside.
Another piece of aircraft wreckage with one of the crew members was found at Görlitzer Straße 22. The rest of the wreckage, including five crew members, crashed into the property at Jägerstraße 24. These five British airmen were hastily buried on 19 February 1945 in Prießnitzgrund. On 24 June 1947, their remains were exhumed and transferred to the Berlin War Cemetery.
