Dresdner Mahndepots – KUNSTPLAN

LOCATION 28: Kleine Zwingerstraße 8, Rückseite (today Annenstraße 5)

28On the grounds at Kleine Zwingerstraße 8, the undertakers Guhr & Stein maintained one of the six coffin-repositories. In 1943, its inventory was assigned to the state reserves for the burial of air-raid victims. After the first air raids on Dresden in October 1944 and January 1945, the city administration demanded the swift restocking of the repository.
Although they only affected a limited part of the city, together the two air raids claimed nearly 600 victims among Dresden’s inhabitants. This relatively high number is clear evidence of the city’s inadequate civil air defence preparations.
