On 21 July 1944, one day after the failed assassination attempt on Hitler, significant detachments of all of the units of the Dresden garrison were ordered to Königsufer to take part in a “loyalty to the Führer rally”. The Dresdeners were very sympathetic to the demonstration and rally, and the local NSDAP groups called for participation in the event. Units from the Hitler Youth and other organisations as well as representatives from businesses and institutions marched in the demonstration.
